Yes, this decent was a knee cracker! Down and down and down the rooty slopes, tiny footholds and steps trodden into the tree roots, at leg stretching heights. The kneecaps feel like they’ve taken a right smashing today. The last hour or two you’re hanging onto your sticks to cushion the blow of each step. Walking the length of the country is clocking up some heavy impacts. Crunchy knees! Very happy to hear we’re camping an hour short of Siberia Hut to miss the crowds… Bring on the camp fire! And a sit down, yey!
It felt long going up, but it felt even longer coming down.. The final section along the Gillespie Stream seemed to take forever, the matted mesh of tree roots covering the forest floor resembled an Indiana Jones style carpet of snakes that made for careful slow progress.
