A fair few people on this part of the trail. Nelson Lakes is a popular National Park it seems. Highlights of the day include: Dieter, who we met down in St Arnaud, catching us up in a single day – Impressive! Sleeping in the kitchen to escape a snorer in the bunk room and waking up to find ourselves surrounded by mattresses – everyone having snuck out one by one in the night ;) The front door jamming shut and everyone having to enter and exit via the window, Dukes of Hazard stylie. And me having a face-off with a massive possum on the porch when I went out for a wee in the dark of night! ( He had big teeth… Honest. )
I quite liked using the window as a door, preferred it in fact. Felt like those old TV shows where folk would dive through the window of a car rather than use the door :)
We were worried that people who arrived at the hut later today might think the hut was closed/locked, so Nicky made this lovely sign out of one of my old map sheets.
