We’d seen a sign suggesting we’d not be able to get in here, but we thought it worth a look. We have to come by this way anyway. Perhaps a good hearted logger chap will give us a lift over the no-go area? … Maybe they’ll pack up at 5pm and let us through? … Should we hang around and see if we spot any life in there through the NO ENTRY gates? … Would anyone even know if we sneaked through? Or will we be squashed by giant rolling logs in a Donkey Kong stylie?
The section of Te Araroa from Scotts Road and Tokomaru Valley Road (Burrtons Track) is closed due to logging. We actually knew this was kind of coming, I’d read in trail notes (on Sunday night) that this section of trail was only open on weekends, bad timing since we were setting off from town on Monday.. Waiting for a whole week was out of the question, so we decided to just hike up here and see what happens, maybe there’ll be no logging going on, or they will just let us through?
