Pumped up on lunch the real work began. We had to get up and out of this epic valley onto the tops. And that was going to mean some serious thigh and calf action, not to mention some white knuckle hand grips. But first, there was a three dimensional labyrinth of a forest climb to wiggle through SAS style.
After leaving Aspiring Hut there’s a 2 hour steady climb through beech forest. This creek marks halfway in terms of horizontal distance to the top, but only about a third of the vertical. From this point we leave the forest, head out onto open tussock and it starts getting seriously steep.
