I dug into a sweet fillet mignon with tomatoes, basil, and roasted peppers. A lamb extravaganza was ordered by Cookie and Ollie. It came out and pretty much filled the table :) Afterward the waitress exclaimed that she’d never seen a lamb shoulder cleaned up quite to that extreme before. What can I say, tramping makes you hungry eh!
Upon arriving in a new town I usually check out the restaurants while walking around to see who’s got the biggest piece of meat on the menu. In Wanaka there’s was a clear winner – 1.4kg of Lamb Shoulder, “Boys we’re coming back here tonight!” Plus they have a meat cleaver as a door handle, there was no objections to my choice.
The menu at Botswana Butchery is both mouth watering and wallet emptying. The lamb was spectacular, similar to crispy peking duck in a lot of respects. It had been slow roasted and fell apart into juicy fibrous meaty forkfuls ready for mouth shovelling.
Such a shame the Botswana Butchery Wanaka is now closed….looks so damn tasty!!
