Anders, DM and Landey = the Tasty Trekkers!After giving the Tasties an extra day to catch us up ;) ( over the proper route ) we hooked up for a cheeky beverage at lunchtime. They planned to keenly head off to Glendu Bay and get a good head start on the next section. But we had a more cunning-er plan… We lured them in with the promise of booze… got them tipsy, then a bit more tipsy. And soon, they fell into our ‘cleverly crafted’ trap. An impromptu all-day drinking bender ensued. And before you knew it, we were all draped around the motel comparing injuries and war stories, whilst getting seriously stuck-into a wide selection of beers and rums, and playing drinking/drunken games til the wee hours. Excellent fun. Way past a hiker’s bedtime!
At the end of the Timaru River we decided to hitch into Lake Hawea to avoid being under canvas when this snow storm hit. We secretly hoped that if someone picked us up, maybe, just maybe they’d be going to Wanaka and we’d be eating Obama Burgers tonight! Our wishes were almost answered, 10 minutes after hitting the gravel road the first car to come by picked us up, and sure enough he was going to Wanaka! Excellent . . . Only find out Uncle Mike’s closed down since our last visit, apparently rising rent forced him out, such a shame :(
It did help us catch the Tasty Trekkers up though!
