A short day today. We’d both realised we were absolutely cream crackered, and so after a good weak on the milage decided we deserved a rest day.
Meaning to get a little further this day, once we got into Orewa with it’s sunny beach front shops and the promise of beer and sleep in the air, we buckled and sought the comforts of a motel :) Turned out to be a great idea as Orewa Motor Lodge was amazing! With its high wooded ceilings it felt like an alpine cabin. Even had a proper sofa….. Now that’s luxury ;) After a few days sat on the floor in the wild you start to dream about a comfy chair such as this!
Dirk had mentioned that
Gunter, a friend of the trail that ferries people across the Weiti River on the
next section was away this weekend.. That was all the excuse we needed to take a rest day in Orewa and wait for Monday :)
Rest Day Highlights Include: Home-cooked steak and wedges with pepper sauce; Bottle of bubbly (swish!); Enormous ploughmans lunch; Beer; Fryup *and* cheesecake for breakfast (fairly extravagant I agree! ).
