After Matapouri being a bit of a let down it was awesome to find that Tutukaka had not only a couple of restaurants and a shop but a camp site with a giant fish outside. You can’t say better than that.
The gardener fella on a quad bike outside, cleaning it with a power washer, confirmed Cookie’s suspicion, after much debate, that it was in fact a Marlin.
We were looking forward to arriving in Matapouri today, on the map it has big bold letters suggesting maybe we could get a steak or at least fish & chips there. Sadly there wasn’t much other than a small shop, so we detoured 4 miles up the road to Tutukaka (which had much smaller letters on the map), but we were reliably informed had lodgings and fine food.
