Getting up the the hut we found it was in fact two huts! A really cool old-skool 50’s style one, and a more modern but just as cozy version. What a great idea! Always makes me sad to hear of old huts being taken down to make way for huge capacity giant barn versions ( as great as they are too ). This is a wonderful compromise allowing for two easy to heat, cozy and characterful spaces, with charm and amazing views. Mount Pollux in the background there dominated the skyline and provided us with dramatic avalanches at sunset!
Wow, pretty impressive valley head awaited us at Top Forks hut, shortly after arriving we witnessed a chunk of glacier break free from Pollux’s upper slopes and come crashing down the mountain in a waterfall of snow.
